Martin Brooker
Leadership Speaker | Executive Coach | Retired Commodore | Royal Australian Navy
Commodore Martin Brooker is a 37-year veteran of the Royal Australian Navy. He commanded ships in the Middle East, led elite Clearance Divers, served as Deputy Commander of Australia’s Joint Forces, and directed Navy’s largest transformation program.
But his most important leadership journey was personal. Hitting a breaking point despite professional success, Martin confronted his own blind spots and that became the foundation of his message: leadership begins with leading yourself.
Today he works with leaders and organisations to build cultures where everyday leadership, self-awareness, and genuine inclusion are not just values. They are lived practice.

About Martin
Commodore Martin Brooker spent 37 years in the Royal Australian Navy leading people in environments where mistakes were never an option. He commanded an Amphibious Ship in the Middle East and Pacific, led the Navy’s elite Clearance Divers, served as Deputy Commander of Australia’s Joint Forces in the Middle East and Afghanistan, and directed New Generation Navy, the largest transformation program in the Navy’s history. He retired in 2015 at the rank of Commodore.
But behind the career was a personal story few knew. Despite decades of professional success, Martin reached a breaking point. He was forced to confront the blind spots and unaddressed struggles that were quietly holding him back. That moment of truth became the foundation of his signature message: leadership begins with leading yourself.
Today Martin partners with leaders and organisations to build high-performance cultures grounded in self-awareness, everyday leadership, and genuine inclusion, moving diversity and culture from policy into lived practice.
